The Largest Lake Minnetonka Community

Stretching from Highway 169 to the shores of Lake Minnetonka's Gray's Bay, Minnetonka is a large and diverse community comprised of shopping centers, rolling hills, numerous parks, trails, and multiple school district choices. Minnetonka homes for sale reflect this diversity of development, with large planned communities in the east and north, and more single family housing stock in the west and south.

Property Mix

Almost 49,000 people call the city of Minnetonka home. With an area of 29 mostly dry miles, Minnetonka has developed into a large and prosperous suburb. Minnetonka home for sale are generally much pricier than the Twin Cities average. Although roughly 75% single family housing, there are numerous townhome and condominium developments, with seemingly more popping up every day, especially to the more densely developed east.
Home of Ridgedale Center, there are many large commercial office buildings, allowing residents to work and play in the same area.

Activities and Fun for Young and Old

Minnetonka's size and population allow it to offer a bevy of entertainment choices. From fine dining to casual lakeside bars, residents and visitors find plenty of entertainment choices here.
For those looking for a way to connect with nature, Minnetonka is home to numerous parks - over 45 are listed on the city's parks website. In fact you'll find that most Minnetonka homes for sale are close to one or two parks. Be sure to check out Purgatory Park. With 155 acres of picnic areas, crushed limestone trails and beautiful views of Purgatory Creek it's Minnetonka's largest park.
Staying with the outdoor theme, the city of Minnetonka maintains about 90 miles of trails and sidewalks suitable for biking and running. In fact the beautiful and convenient Lake Minnetonka LRT Regional Trail runs through the city, touching the shores of Lake Minnetonka in the west and Hopkins to the east. Obviously, Minnetonka homes for sale along this trail command an extra premium from trail enthusiasts.
Lake Minnetonka is f course another draw, and Minnetonka offers access to the lake via the Gray's Bay Public Access and Marina. Enjoy sailing, skiing, fishing, boating, or whatever else you can think up on Minnesota's most highly desired chain of lakes.

School Choices

Residents of Minnetonka have their education needs met by three different school districts: Hopkins, Minnetonka, and Wayzata. Open enrollment is also an option under Minnesota's open enrollment statute.
If under the jurisdiction of the Minnetonka School District, students will start elementary school at Clear Springs Elementary, Groveland Elementary, or Scenic Heights Elementary (these are not the only elementary schools in the district, but are the ones that serve Minnetonka proper) Next stop is Minnetonka Middle School East or Minnetonka Middle School West. Finally, the last stop is Minnetonka High School.
If you are served by the Hopkins School District, then your little learners first stop might be Gatewood Elementary. Other possibilities are Glen Lake Elementary School or L.H. Tanglen Elementary School. Then, the education track continues at either Hopkins West Junior High School or Hopkins North Junior High School. Last but not least, Hopkins High School ends the district education train.
Let's conclude with a little tip: if you are looking at a Minnetonka home for sale and aren't sure about what district it is in there are online tools to check that address. Even if you are sure, you should still call or email the school district and verify the address.
